Papa Lilinoe
Led by Aunty Chey, Papa Lilinoe is a warm and encouraging classroom where keiki are supported as they build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.
Aunty Chey’s loving demeanor and passion for music, movement, and creative dance help make the classroom an engaging and joyful place to learn. She has a special way of helping children feel comfortable and secure, particularly those experiencing school for the first time. Keiki who may begin the year feeling hesitant or unsure often blossom within just a few weeks—participating confidently, building friendships, and even stepping forward to lead their classmates.
Through hands-on learning, movement, classroom routines, and meaningful social experiences, Papa Lilinoe nurtures each child’s individual growth while encouraging kindness, cooperation, creativity, and confidence within the Kawaiahaʻo Church School ʻohana.
Papa Ulu
Led by Aunty Tina, Papa Ulu offers a nurturing and joyful introduction to early childhood learning. Aunty Tina has been part of the Kawaiahaʻo Church School ʻohana for more than 20 years and brings a strong background in early childhood development and Montessori-based learning.
Her cheerful spirit, along with her love of playing the ʻukulele and singing with her students, helps begin each morning with warmth, music, and connection. Through thoughtfully prepared activities and daily routines, Aunty Tina encourages keiki to become confident and independent learners while developing important social, practical, and developmental skills.
Her years of experience help create a classroom where children feel secure, supported, and encouraged to explore at their own pace while building nurturing friendships with their classmates.
Papa Ulu
Aunty Maile is a longtime member of the Kawaiahaʻo Church School ʻohana, having served our keiki in several roles throughout the years, including as a classroom assistant and former lead teacher of our dual-language program. Fluent in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, she brings Hawaiian language, culture, and a deep understanding of early childhood education into her daily interactions with students.
Having taught in both our Kama Iki and Kamaliʻi programs, Aunty Maile is recognized as one of our seasoned educators. Her calm and nurturing presence provides an important sense of security for our youngest keiki, many of whom are experiencing a school environment for the very first time.
Over the years, Aunty Maile has helped guide many children through their early learning journey, with former students continuing to thrive in private and public schools throughout Hawaiʻi. Her experience, cultural knowledge, and genuine care for each child help create a classroom environment where keiki feel safe, connected, and confident as they begin developing their independence and love of learning.
